Product Information

The Scubapro Hydros Pro BCD with AIR2 (Women's) is a back-inflated, weight-integrated buoyancy compensator built around a fabric-free Monprene Gel Harness, rated at 36 lbs (16.3 kg) of lift and weighing 11 lb (4.99 kg), and supplied with an AIR2 alternate air source in place of a standard power inflator. It is cut on women's sizing and ships with both a travel harness and a carry-on backpack.

Who it is for

This is a BCD for the woman diver who wants one jacket for home water and for travel. The back-inflated air cell keeps the chest and front clear of buoyancy hardware. The molded Monprene harness absorbs very little water, so it dries quickly and packs small in the included carry-on backpack. Because the harness is modular, the same BCD can be dived with the integrated weight pockets or swapped to the included travel harness for a flight.

  • 4 D-rings for accessory attachment
  • 2-stage inflation with tri-bungee air distribution

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a scuba BCD fit?

A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.

How do I rinse and care for a BCD after diving?

Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.

Should I use integrated weights or a weight belt?

Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.

How do I pack a BCD for travel?

Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.

When does a BCD need to be serviced?

Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.

What is the difference between a jacket-style and a back-inflate BCD?

A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.

Will my BCD fit any scuba tank?

Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.

What sizes and colors does the women's Hydros Pro with AIR2 come in?

It is offered in three women's sizes, XS/S, M and L, corresponding to item numbers 21.736.140, 21.736.340 and 21.736.440. Color choices include White, Army Green, Blue, Pink, Orange, Purple, Black, Turquoise and Yellow. If you are between sizes or unsure which cut suits your torso, call our Irvine shop at 888-701-4017 and we will walk through it with you.

What is included with this Hydros Pro BCD?

The package includes the Hydros Pro BCD with AIR2, two Monprene weight pockets, two interior quick-release weight pouches, an additional travel harness and a carry-on backpack. The two weight pockets and two back trim pockets give you a full integrated weight setup for local diving. The travel harness and carry-on backpack let you pack the BCD down compactly for flights.

How much lift does the women's Hydros Pro provide, and how much does it weigh?

This women's configuration is rated at 36 lbs (16.3 kg) of lift, with a dry weight of 11 lb (4.99 kg). The air cell is back-inflated, so all of that lift sits behind you and keeps your chest clear. The harness also has near-zero inherent buoyancy, which helps with buoyancy control and can reduce the lead you need to carry.

Can I use Hydros Pro 2 weight pockets with this first-generation Hydros Pro?

No. Scubapro states that the new monorail weight system used on the Hydros Pro 2 is not compatible with the first-generation Hydros Pro, so use the Monprene weight pockets and interior quick-release pouches designed for this model. Those are included in the box. Contact us if you need help identifying the correct replacement pocket or component for your BCD.

Review summary

4.8 123 ratings across the web

Written reviews for this one are still few. It is a back-inflate buoyancy compensator built around a moldable Monprene Gel Harness, with a 3D ergonomic shape and multiple attachment points so the fit can be adjusted and the setup personalized. The design is fabric-free, so it absorbs little water and packs down for travel, and it has near-zero inherent buoyancy, modular add-on pockets, a weight system, and compatibility with different air sources. It suits women divers who travel and want a configurable rig.

I’m a 74 year old male, 6’3” 290 lbs will this suit fit me?
If not, would you have a shorty suit?
I live in north Florida and will be wearing it in the springs.

Thank you
