Product Information

The Genesis Rama Dive Mask without Purge is a three-lens scuba and snorkeling mask built around one wide center lens and two smaller side lenses, giving divers a broad horizontal field of vision. It uses a double edged silicone skirt for a smooth face seal and Quick Disconnect buckles for easy strap adjustment and service, and it is offered in five color choices.

Who it is for

This mask suits scuba divers and snorkelers who want a wide, panoramic horizontal field of vision. The three lens layout is designed for peripheral sight, which helps when you are tracking a buddy, scanning a reef, or keeping an eye on gauges and the surface. Because there is no purge valve on this version, it is a good pick for divers who prefer a simpler skirt with no moving parts in front of the nose and who clear the mask with normal exhalation technique.

Key details

  • Lens configuration: three lens design, one wide center lens plus two small side lenses.
  • Skirt: silicone with a double edged design that creates a second sealing surface against the face.
  • Buckles: Quick Disconnect buckles for ease of use and serviceability.
  • Strap upgrade: can be upgraded with the separately purchased Genesis Elastic Mask Strap.
  • Purge: no purge valve on this model.

Compatibility and sizing

Color options are Ultra Violet (SM7000UV), Black (SM7000BK), Black Silicone (SM7000BS), Ice Blue (SM7000IB) and Lemon Yellow (SM7000LY). To check fit, hold the mask to your face without the strap and inhale gently through your nose; the skirt should seal all the way around with no gaps at the temples or nose bridge.

DiveCatalog.com is an authorized Genesis dealer and a real dive shop in Irvine, California since 2003. If you are not sure which color or whether the elastic strap upgrade is right for you, call or chat with us at 888-701-4017 and we will help you sort out fit and compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a dive mask fits?

Hold the mask against your face without using the strap, look slightly down, and inhale gently through your nose; a well-fitting mask holds itself in place for a few seconds. Check that the skirt seals all the way around without digging into the nose bridge, and that there are no gaps at the temples or above the upper lip. A mustache can break the seal even on an otherwise well-fitting mask.

Why does my brand new mask fog no matter what I do?

New masks carry a residue on the inside of the lens left over from manufacturing, and defog cannot stick to it, so the mask fogs until that film is removed. The standard pre-treatment is to scrub the inside of the lens with a mild abrasive cleaner or a dedicated mask prep and rinse thoroughly, repeating if it still fogs. Follow the mask manufacturer's instructions, particularly on coated or mirrored lenses.

How do I stop my dive mask from fogging?

Apply defog to a dry lens before the dive, spread it over the whole inner surface, then rinse briefly with water just before you put the mask on. Fogging happens when warm moist air meets a cooler lens, so a clean lens with a thin surfactant film is the fix. Keep sunscreen off your fingers before handling the inside of the lens, because that film fogs badly and is hard to remove.

Why do dive masks need tempered glass?

Dive mask lenses should be tempered safety glass because it resists scratching and, if it ever does break, fractures into blunt granules rather than sharp shards next to your eyes. Untempered or plastic lenses scratch easily and can craze, which is why tempered glass is standard on scuba masks. Look for the tempered marking etched on the lens.

Can I get a dive mask with my prescription?

Yes, prescription options are widely available, usually as masks fitted with stock corrective lenses in set diopter steps, custom-ground lenses installed in compatible frames, or bonded lenses added to an existing lens. Not every mask frame accepts replacement lenses, so check compatibility before you buy the frame. An optician or a dive shop can help translate your glasses prescription into a mask lens choice.

How should I care for and store a dive mask?

Rinse it in fresh water after each dive day and let it dry away from direct sunlight, avoiding anything abrasive on the treated inner lens. Store it in a rigid mask box so the skirt is never compressed or creased, since a set crease in the skirt is a permanent leak. Keep silicone skirts away from petroleum products and prolonged UV, both of which yellow and harden them.

How tight should a dive mask strap be?

Not tight at all in the usual sense, because over-tightening is the most common cause of both leaks and headaches; a hard-pulled strap distorts the skirt and lifts the seal off your face. The strap should sit high on the back of your head and be just firm enough to keep the mask from shifting. If you need it cranked down to stop a leak, the mask does not fit your face.

Does the Genesis Rama mask have a purge valve?

No. This version of the Genesis Rama is the mask without purge, so there is no one-way valve under the nose pocket. You clear it the standard way, by pressing the top of the skirt against your forehead and exhaling through your nose. Divers often prefer a non-purge skirt because there are no moving parts to rinse, inspect or replace.

Why does the Rama use three lenses instead of one?

The three lens layout places one wide center lens in front of your eyes and two smaller lenses at the sides. Genesis designed it this way to deliver an outstanding horizontal field of vision, with the side lenses specifically crafted for peripheral sight. That is useful for keeping a buddy, a reef wall or a boat line in view without turning your head as much.

Can I replace the strap on the Genesis Rama mask?

Yes. The Rama can be upgraded with the Genesis Elastic Mask Strap, which is purchased separately. The mask uses Quick Disconnect buckles, which Genesis provides for ease of use and serviceability. If you are unsure which strap you need, contact us before ordering.

What colors and part numbers are available?

The Genesis Rama without purge is listed in five colors: Ultra Violet (SM7000UV), Black (SM7000BK), Black Silicone (SM7000BS), Ice Blue (SM7000IB) and Lemon Yellow (SM7000LY). Choose the color from the option menu on this page.
