Product Information

The Approach R50 is Garmin's premium golf launch monitor and simulator, and it measures with three high-speed cameras rather than radar. Camera measurement reads the club and ball directly at impact, which is what allows the unit to record impact videos alongside the numbers.

A 10 in LCD touchscreen at 800 x 1280 pixels is built into the unit, so shot data and simulated play are visible without connecting an external screen — though HDMI output is provided for a projector or monitor. The R50 measures 16.5 x 10.6 x 7.5 in and weighs 9 lbs, and an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery runs up to 4 hours away from mains power. Connectivity is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, with USB-C and HDMI interfaces.

Each shot is measured across fourteen metrics: club head speed, club face angle, club path angle, angle of attack, ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin axis, spin rate, apex height, smash factor, carry distance, total distance and deviation distance.

Practice and play features include a driving range mode, driving range target practice, putting inside the golf simulator, saved club stats and impact videos. Home Tee Hero provides simulated course play with an active subscription, and the R50 is compatible with third-party simulator software for players building a wider studio setup.

In the box: Approach R50 launch monitor and simulator, carrying case, AC adapter and power cord, 250 club tracking stickers and documentation. Water rating is IPX3, so the unit is intended for covered or indoor use and light weather rather than sustained rain.
