Product Information

The SCUBAPRO Modular Fin System Boot-Fit Pocket is the open-heel foot pocket half of SCUBAPRO's two-piece modular fin system, sold as a pair with the blade sold separately. Molded from premium Monprene with a marine-grade bungee heel strap, it attaches to a compatible Seawing Supernova or S-Tek blade through SCUBAPRO's Socket-Lock Connecting System and ships with one set of Lock Plates for assembly.

Who it is for

This foot pocket is built for divers who wear dive boots and want one set of pockets they can pair with different blades as their diving changes. SCUBAPRO lists the system for professional services, recreational, technical and travel use, so it suits the diver who moves between a warm-water trip, a working dive and a technical setup without buying a whole new pair of fins.

Key details

  • Open-heel foot pocket in Monprene, positively buoyant, sold as a pair
  • Heavy-duty marine-grade bungee heel strap for micro-adjustments across different boot thicknesses
  • Extended grip pads on the foot pocket for non-skid grip on wet surfaces
  • Socket-Lock Connecting System for blade attachment; one set of Lock Plates included
  • Five sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) in Black or White
  • Published weight: 1.764 lb on the base/XS listing and 1.874 lb on the Black, size S listing

Compatibility and sizing

The pocket is compatible with the SCUBAPRO Seawing Supernova blade and the S-Tek blade. Published foot pocket dimensions run 9.84 in to 10.24 in long and 3.35 in to 3.54 in wide across the measured listings, with overall listed length of 11.34 in and width of 5.71 in. Size open-heel pockets around the boots you actually dive, since sole thickness changes the size you need.

What's in the box

  • Pair of Boot-Fit open-heel foot pockets
  • 1 set of Lock Plates for assembly with a compatible blade

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between open-heel and full-foot fins?

Open-heel fins have an adjustable heel strap and are worn with dive boots, which protect your feet on shore entries and add warmth. Full-foot fins slip on like a shoe against bare skin or a thin sock, and are typically lighter and easier to pack. Most scuba divers choose open-heel fins with boots, while full-foot fins suit warm water, snorkeling, and pool use.

How should scuba fins fit?

Open-heel fins should be sized around the boots you will actually wear, snug with the strap set so your heel stays seated and your foot does not slide forward in the pocket. Full-foot fins should fit like a firm shoe, with no heel lift, no pinched toes, and no gap that lets water pump in and out. Too loose causes heel blisters and lost fins in current, and too tight causes foot cramps.

Should I buy dive boots before fins?

Choose your boots first and size open-heel fins around them, because sole thickness changes the foot-pocket size you need. A thin warm-water boot and a thick cold-water boot with a rugged sole can easily be a fin size apart. If you already own fins, bring them along when you buy boots so you can check the combination.

Are spring straps worth it?

Spring straps replace the adjustable rubber strap with a stainless spring that stretches on and off, so there is nothing to buckle with cold or gloved hands and no rubber strap to perish and snap mid-dive. They hold constant tension, which many divers find more comfortable and consistent. They are sized rather than adjustable, so match the length to your foot pocket and the boots you dive.

What are the best fins for travel?

For travel, length and weight matter most, so shorter blades and travel-specific open-heel or full-foot models pack more easily and save baggage allowance. Some fins have removable blades or compact foot pockets designed for luggage. Pack fins along the outside walls of your bag, where they also act as protection for softer gear.

What is the difference between paddle and split fins?

Paddle fins use a solid blade that transfers power directly, which many divers prefer for precision, control in current, and non-flutter kicks such as the frog kick. Split fins have a slit down the blade that lets water pass through, which generally makes flutter kicking easier on the legs but gives up some control and works less well with other kick styles. Neither is inherently better, so let your kick style, leg strength, and conditions decide, and try both if you get the chance.

How do I care for dive fins?

Rinse them in fresh water after each dive day, paying attention to buckles, springs, and strap channels where salt collects, and dry them out of direct sunlight. Store them flat or hanging from the foot pocket rather than standing on the blade tips, which can take a permanent bend. Check straps, buckles, and any screws before every trip, since a failed buckle is the most common fin problem.

Does the Boot-Fit Pocket include a fin blade?

No. The Boot-Fit Pocket is sold as a pair of open-heel foot pockets only, and the blade is sold separately. Each pair includes one set of Lock Plates so you can assemble the pockets to a compatible blade using SCUBAPRO's Socket-Lock Connecting System. Compatible blades are the SCUBAPRO Seawing Supernova and the S-Tek blade.

Which Scubapro blades fit these foot pockets?

SCUBAPRO lists the Modular Fin System Boot-Fit Pocket as compatible with the Seawing Supernova blade and the S-Tek blade. The pocket and blade join through the Socket-Lock Connecting System, and the included set of Lock Plates secures the assembly. Because the two halves separate, you can keep one pair of pockets and change blades as your diving needs change.

What sizes and colors are available?

The Boot-Fit Pocket comes in five sizes, XS, S, M, L and XL, in Black or White. Published foot pocket dimensions range from 9.84 in to 10.24 in in length and 3.35 in to 3.54 in in width across the measured listings. SCUBAPRO publishes 1.764 lb for the base/XS listing and 1.874 lb for the Black, size S listing. Size around the dive boots you actually wear.

How does the heel strap adjust?

The open-heel pocket uses a heavy-duty marine-grade bungee heel strap that allows micro-adjustments, so it can accommodate different boot types and sole thicknesses. The foot pocket also has extended grip pads for improved non-skid grip on wet surfaces such as a boat deck or wet platform. The pockets are positively buoyant and molded in premium Monprene.

Review summary

4.9 15 ratings across the web

Reviewers agree the fins are comfortable and well built, with one diver noting a true-to-size fit over their boots. The bungee heel strap stayed put on high boat entries. The modular design is the other theme: owners can buy spare boot pockets or swap in different blades. A good pick for divers who want a fin system they can reconfigure over time instead of replacing.

Love the Supernova Dive Fins

My new Scubapro Supernova Fins had a small cut on the top of the boot. I asked the dive shop owner what he recommended to fix the boot. He informed me that they were made of monprene and suggested he reach out to the Scubapro Rep prior to trying to fix them with superglue.

I called Scubapro when I got back to the US and they recommended taking it to a dive shop for a warranty repair. Problem is Las Cruces is the nearest dive shop and that's an 11 hour trip. I took it to a dive shop when I flew back to Virginia, but they had to ship it to California, so the process took longer than my stay.

Being modular, I opted to buy a second set of the boot pockets so I don't have to worry about down time in the future should problems arise. Plus I can use Scubapro S-Tek Pro Blade if I want to go with a neutral or negative buoyancy fin.

super comfortable, bought true to shoe size (10.5) and had enough room while still being very insulating in low 50s ocean temps, and 7mm wetsuit tucked in. nice quality construction, love the heel ridge to keep fin strap in place on high boat entries, and the velcro holds the zipper up perfectly.
