Product Information

The BARE Reactive 5mm Full Wetsuit (Men's) is a 5mm back-zip full suit built from Elastek full-stretch neoprene combined with Graphene Omnired fabric, a lining that uses your own body heat to generate an infrared response. BARE's lab testing shows a 5 degree Celsius average temperature increase over the original Omnired technology, and the suit is backed by a 2-year warranty.

Who it is for

This suit is made for male divers in cool and temperate water who want maximum warmth without giving up stretch and range of motion. The anatomically correct, three-dimensional pattern and seamless underarms suit long dive days, gear-heavy boat diving, and repetitive dives where shoulder mobility and comfort matter. It is also offered in 3mm and 7mm thicknesses if your usual conditions are warmer or colder.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a wetsuit fit?

A wetsuit should feel snug everywhere, with no loose pockets at the lower back, armpits, or behind the knees where water can collect and flush. It will feel tighter than normal clothing on land, which is expected, because the suit works by holding a thin layer of water that your body warms. If you cannot take a full breath or the neck chokes you it is too small, and if you can pinch loose folds of neoprene it is too big.

What do you wear under a wetsuit?

Most divers wear a swimsuit, a rash guard, or a thin dive-specific base layer under a wetsuit. A slick base layer makes a tight suit much easier to pull on and cuts down chafing at the neck, shoulders, and underarms. Avoid thick cotton clothing, which soaks up water, bunches, and makes you colder rather than warmer.

How do you put on a tight wetsuit?

Work upward in small sections, pulling a little neoprene at a time rather than yanking on one spot, and get the suit fully seated at the ankles and knees before working on the hips and shoulders. A plastic bag over each foot and hand, or wetting the suit first, helps it slide into place. Grip with flat palms rather than fingertips, since fingernails are the most common cause of torn neoprene.

Does a thicker wetsuit mean a warmer wetsuit?

As a general rule, thicker neoprene insulates more, so a higher millimeter rating is warmer in the same conditions. Warmth also depends heavily on fit, suit style, seam construction, whether you add a hood, boots, and gloves, how long the dive is, and your own cold tolerance, so two divers in identical suits can feel very differently. Use thickness as a starting point and refine it against your local conditions and personal experience.

How do I care for and store a wetsuit?

Rinse it inside and out in fresh water after every dive day, and use a wetsuit-specific wash occasionally to control odor. Dry it inside-out first and then flip it, always out of direct sunlight, because UV and heat break down neoprene faster than anything else. Store it hanging on a wide-shouldered hanger or laid flat rather than folded, so you do not set permanent creases.

How long does a wetsuit last?

Lifespan depends far more on use and care than on age, so a suit dived hard in sun and chlorine may soften within a couple of seasons while a well-rinsed occasional-use suit can last many years. Signs a suit is finished include compressed neoprene that no longer feels buoyant or warm, splitting seams, and looseness in areas that used to be snug. Repairing small cuts and seam separations early adds meaningfully to a suit's life.

What is the difference between a full suit, a shorty, and wetsuit separates?

A full suit covers arms and legs, a shorty stops at the upper arms and thighs, and separates such as tops, bottoms, and hooded vests layer to add warmth where you want it. Layering a vest or top under a full suit adds core warmth and can extend the range of a suit you already own. Choose based on how much coverage you want, both for warmth and for protection against stings and abrasion.

What does Graphene Omnired do in the BARE Reactive 5mm?

Graphene Omnired is the fabric lining BARE combines with its Elastek neoprene, and it uses your body heat to generate an infrared response. BARE's lab testing shows a 5 degree Celsius average temperature increase compared with the original Omnired technology.

Does the Reactive 5mm have ankle zippers?

Yes. The Reactive 5mm uses extra-long 11 inch heavy-duty ankle zippers so you can open the lower legs wide and step in or out without fighting the neoprene. The suit also uses an extra-long G-Lock2 back zipper with an offset tooth design, backed by a skin-to-skin double internal sealing flap and a full length puller with a grip tab at the base.

What sizes and colors does the BARE Reactive 5mm come in?

It is offered here in Black and Blue. Sizes run S, M, MT, ML, MLS, MLT, L, LS, LT, XL, XLS, XLT, 2XL, 2XLS, 3XL and 4XL, so Short and Tall cuts are available alongside standard lengths to match torso length as well as chest and waist. BARE also builds the Reactive in 3mm and 7mm thicknesses.

What warranty comes with the BARE Reactive 5mm wetsuit?

BARE backs the Reactive 5mm with a 2-year warranty. The suit is built with limestone-based foam, dope-dyed fibers and water-based glue, and it is 100% PFC-Free. It ships with a re-usable hanger and a PLA compostable, recyclable bag. BARE backs the Reactive 5mm with a 2-year warranty, and DiveCatalog.com is an authorized BARE dealer.

Review summary

4.7 99 ratings across the web

Reviewers consistently call this suit warm, with several noting comfort in water in the low 70s and more warmth than their previous suits. Fit gets strong marks, though one diver had to order a size up from the chart. Craftsmanship drew praise, and one diver used it on four dives without trouble. A couple of reviewers hit seam problems that the brand's warranty covered quickly. Divers like that it works as a step up from a 3mm. A good pick for divers wanting extra insulation in cool to moderate water.

Great replacement for my 3mm. I was going back and fourth about gluing pockets on my current 3mm but this suit does it all. Highly recommend. If you’re getting into tech, this suit can get err done in warm temps
