Open Box Dive Computers — Serious Instruments, Lower Prices
Dive computers hold their function far better than they hold their box. The electronics either work or they don't, and a scuff on a bezel has no effect on the decompression algorithm running inside. That makes this one of the better open box categories — a computer graded Open Box or Like New performs identically to the same model bought new, at a meaningfully lower price.
The collection spans wrist computers, watch-style units, console configurations, air-integrated models, and transmitters from Shearwater, Suunto, Scubapro, Garmin, Oceanic, Mares, Seac, and others. Every item is inspected and graded before listing; see Product Conditions for full definitions.
What to Check Before Ordering
- Battery type. User-replaceable battery models are straightforward. Rechargeable models raise a fair question about battery health — lithium-ion cells lose capacity over time regardless of use. Ask us if the listing doesn't specify.
- Charger and cables included. Proprietary charging clips and cables are easily separated from a returned computer, and replacements aren't always cheap. Confirm what ships with the item.
- Transmitter pairing. If you're buying an air-integrated computer, confirm whether a transmitter is included — usually it isn't, and it's a significant separate cost.
- Firmware and updates. Most current computers update over Bluetooth, so an older stock unit can generally be brought current. Older discontinued models may no longer receive updates.
- Strap condition. Straps perish faster than the computer itself. They're usually replaceable and inexpensive, but factor it in if the condition note mentions strap wear.
Setting Up a Used Computer
Before your first dive, reset the computer to factory settings and configure it yourself rather than inheriting a previous owner's setup. Set your gas mixes, conservatism or Gradient Factors, alarm thresholds, and units from scratch. Verify the date and time are correct, since dive logging and surface interval tracking depend on them.
If the computer records tissue loading, allow a full desaturation period before diving so it starts from a clean baseline rather than carrying data from someone else's dives.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a used dive computer reliable?
Dive computers are solid-state instruments with no moving parts to wear out. Provided the housing is sound and the battery holds charge, a used computer performs identically to a new one. Test it thoroughly before your first dive — run it through a full setup, check the display for dead pixels, and confirm it responds correctly to pressure if you can test it in a pool.
What about battery health on rechargeable models?
Lithium-ion cells degrade over time whether used or not. On a rechargeable computer, charge it fully and check how long it holds. If the listing doesn't state battery condition, ask us. On user-replaceable battery models this isn't a concern — fit a fresh cell and it's effectively new.
Do open box dive computers come with a warranty?
No. Open box and used products are not eligible for manufacturer warranty coverage.
Will the charger be included?
Usually, but check the listing — proprietary charging clips are easily separated from a returned item. If it isn't stated and it matters, contact us and we'll verify the actual item before you order.
Should I reset the computer before using it?
Yes. Reset to factory defaults and configure everything yourself — gas mixes, conservatism settings, alarms, units, date and time. Don't dive a computer set up by someone else with settings you haven't verified.
Can I still get firmware updates?
For current models, generally yes — most update over Bluetooth and the manufacturer doesn't distinguish based on how the unit was purchased. Discontinued models may no longer receive updates. Ask us about a specific model if it matters to you.
