Product Information

The Scubapro S-Tek Donut Wing 30 + S-Tek Pure Harness SS + Single Tank Adapter is a complete technical backplate and wing package that pairs a 3D formed stainless steel backplate and continuous webbing Pure harness with a 30 lb (13 kg) donut wing, plus an aluminum single tank adapter for single cylinder diving. It is a minimalist, fully streamlined buoyancy system for divers who follow the DIR (Doing It Right) approach.

Who it is for

This system suits technical and advanced divers who want a hard plate, a continuous webbing harness and a donut shaped air cell instead of a jacket or recreational back inflate BCD. The included aluminum single tank adapter sets the rig up for single cylinder dives, while the stainless steel plate, multiple attachment points and the wider S-Tek lift options (40 lb and 60 lb configurations) support twin tank and stage rigged configurations as a diver's training progresses.

Key details

  • Lift: 30 lb (13 kg) donut style air cell with an improved rounded profile that reduces air trapping.
  • Materials: PU-coated 1000 Denier Cordura Nylon outer shell.
  • Plate: 3D formed stainless steel with a softened organic shape, radiused edges and EVO Angle webbing slots that reduce abrasion.
  • Hardware: stainless steel waist buckle and D-rings at the shoulders, waist and crotch strap, plus recessed wing nut sockets with S-Tek Ergo Nuts for gloved hands.
  • System weight: 10.302 lb.

Compatibility and sizing

The Pure harness uses one continuous length of webbing routed through the plate slots to set shoulder, waist and crotch strap length.

What's in the box

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a scuba BCD fit?

A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.

How do I rinse and care for a BCD after diving?

Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.

Should I use integrated weights or a weight belt?

Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.

How do I pack a BCD for travel?

Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.

When does a BCD need to be serviced?

Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.

What is the difference between a jacket-style and a back-inflate BCD?

A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.

Will my BCD fit any scuba tank?

Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.

What is included in this S-Tek Pure System package?

The package includes three parts: the S-Tek Pure Harness with its 3D formed stainless steel back plate, the S-Tek 30 lb (13 kg) Donut Wing, and an aluminum Single Tank Adapter. That combination makes it a complete single cylinder backplate and wing rig. Cylinder, regulator, trim weights and an argon bottle are not part of the package.

How do you size a continuous webbing Pure harness?

Sizing is done with the webbing itself rather than with adjustment buckles. The single continuous length of webbing is routed through the EVO Angle slots in the back plate and pulled to length at the shoulders, waist and crotch strap, then locked off with the stainless steel waist buckle. Set it over the thickest exposure suit you dive, then recheck the fit in the water.

Is 30 lb of lift the only option in the S-Tek wing line?

No. Scubapro also publishes the S-Tek wing in 40 lb and 60 lb configurations. The 30 lb (13 kg) donut wing in this package is paired with the included aluminum single tank adapter, which sets the plate up for a single cylinder. If you plan to move to doubles or heavy steel cylinders, contact us and we can talk through the larger lift options.

Why a donut wing instead of a horseshoe style air cell?

A donut wing is a continuous air cell, so gas can migrate all the way around it instead of being isolated in separate lobes. Scubapro's S-Tek donut has an improved rounded profile that reduces air trapping.

Review summary

5.0 9 ratings across the web

Written reviews for this setup are still few. It is a technical backplate and wing system: a donut style wing with 30 pounds of lift, a 3D-formed stainless steel backplate, and a continuous webbing Pure harness, plus a single tank adapter. The wing uses PU-coated 1000 denier Cordura nylon and has five D-rings for rigging accessories, and it weighs about 10.3 pounds. It suits divers running a streamlined, DIR style single tank configuration.
