Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Garmin Quatix 8 and the Fenix 8?
They share the same hardware platform — the Quatix 8 is the marine edition. On top of everything the Fenix 8 does (multisport training, maps, health tracking), the Quatix 8 adds dedicated boating features: autopilot control with a compatible Garmin chartplotter or GHC 50, boat data streaming from compatible chartplotters, sail racing assistance with tack assist and regatta timer, anchor drag and tide-change alarms, and remote control of Garmin trolling motors and Fusion stereos. If you spend time on the water, the Quatix 8 is the one built for you.
Is the Garmin Quatix 8 worth upgrading to from the Quatix 7?
The Quatix 8's headline upgrade over the 7 series is the built-in speaker and microphone — take calls, use voice commands, and control a compatible chartplotter by voice from the wrist. Beyond that, the bright AMOLED display and LED flashlight are now standard on every model (previously only the higher-end Quatix 7 variants had them), on Garmin's newest sensor platform. If you own a base Quatix 7, the jump is significant; from a 7 Pro or Sapphire it is more incremental unless the voice features appeal to you.
What sizes does the Garmin Quatix 8 come in, and which bands fit?
The Quatix 8 comes in 47mm and 51mm case sizes. Both use Garmin's QuickFit band system — 22mm bands for the 47mm case and 26mm bands for the 51mm case — so you can swap between the included band and any compatible QuickFit strap without tools.
Can the Garmin Quatix 8 be used for snorkeling and diving?
Yes — more than most people expect. The Quatix 8 is dive-rated to 40 meters (EN 13319) with leakproof buttons and includes scuba and apnea activity profiles with a genuine Buhlmann decompression model, so it handles snorkeling, freediving, and single-gas recreational scuba within 40 meters. For air integration with the T2 transceiver, multi-gas or technical diving, a 200-meter rating, and SubWave features, step up to Garmin's dedicated Descent series.
