Product Information
The Scubapro Men's Hydros Pro 5th Gen. Air2 BCD with Color Kit Installed is a back-inflated, weight-integrated BCD built around a patented injection-molded Monprene gel harness with a dual-compound back plate, supplied with the AIR2 alternate-air source inflator and a HYDROS BCD Color Kit already fitted. Scubapro publishes 40.5 lbs of lift and a product weight of 11.65 lbs, and the Hydros Pro design won a 2016 Red Dot Award for product design.
Who it is for
This is a BCD for the recreational diver who wants one jacket for home water and travel. The fabric-free Monprene harness resists UV, chemicals and abrasion and holds very little water, and the Smart-Pack design folds the shoulder and waist straps into the wing so the whole unit packs into the included carry-on backpack. Because it switches between a travel-harness configuration and a fully weight-integrated setup with a quick change of clips, it suits divers who alternate between light travel kit and full ditchable weight. The pre-installed Color Kit lets you color-coordinate the pocket panels with Seawing Nova fins.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should a scuba BCD fit?
A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.
How do I rinse and care for a BCD after diving?
Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.
Should I use integrated weights or a weight belt?
Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.
How do I pack a BCD for travel?
Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.
When does a BCD need to be serviced?
Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.
What is the difference between a jacket-style and a back-inflate BCD?
A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.
Will my BCD fit any scuba tank?
Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.
What is the difference between the Hydros Pro with AIR2 and the version with a Balanced Power Inflator?
Scubapro offers the Hydros Pro in two inflator configurations. This one ships with the AIR2, which combines the BCD power inflator and an alternate air source in a single unit, so you breathe from the inflator instead of carrying a separate octopus. The Balanced Power Inflator version is inflation only, and you pair it with a standard alternate second stage of your choice.
Can the Hydros BCD Color Kit be changed to a different color later?
Yes. The HYDROS BCD Color Kit uses quick, easy-attach interchangeable color pocket panels and is sold separately in Black, White, Blue, Yellow, Pink, Purple, Orange, Turquoise and Army Green. The kits fit both the Hydros Pro and the Hydros X. Scubapro recommends having installation done by an authorized Scubapro dealer. The panels also color-coordinate with Seawing Nova fins.
How does the Hydros Pro pack for travel?
The Smart-Pack design folds the shoulder and waist straps into the wing so the BCD collapses into a compact shape, and a carry-on backpack is included for storage and transport. The fabric-free Monprene gel harness has low water retention, so the BCD does not stay heavy with water after diving. Product weight is 11.65 lbs.
Is this BCD weight integrated, and what weight pockets are included?
Yes, the Hydros Pro is weight integrated. It comes with 2 Monprene weight pockets, 2 interior quick-release weight pouches and 2 back trim pockets for trim lead. Thanks to the modular "BCD-4-Life" system and an included additional travel harness, you can switch between a lightweight travel-harness setup and a fully weight-integrated BCD with a quick change of clips.
Review summary
Written reviews are still few for this one. It is a back-inflate BCD built from moldable Monprene gel for a 3D ergonomic fit, with a dual-compound back plate, body grip gel, articulated shoulder straps and multiple attachment points. The Smart-Pack design folds the shoulder and waist straps into the wing, and it comes with a Hydros Pro carry-on backpack. The color kit arrives installed, and it works with AIR2 or Balanced Power Inflator setups. It suits divers who travel often and want an adjustable, packable rig.
