The Hydros Pro 2 is the second generation of the award-winning Hydros Pro and succeeds it in ScubaPro's lineup. It keeps what divers loved — the moldable Monprene gel harness and fully modular BC-4-Life design — and adds the new Monorail slide-and-lock integrated weight system with one-handed, audible-lock operation, a roughly 25% lighter Ergo-Lite backplate, a heavy-duty quick-dry bladder, the Super Cinch 2 tank band, and a flat-folding Smart-Pack design that makes it easier to travel with.

The BPI version comes with ScubaPro's standard balanced power inflator, and you carry a separate octopus as your backup second stage. The AIR2 version combines the inflator and a backup second stage in one unit, which removes the separate octopus and one hose from your setup for a cleaner, more streamlined rig. If you already own an octopus you trust, BPI keeps things simple; if you want fewer hoses, choose AIR2.

Weight pockets are not included with the base Hydros Pro 2 BCD — they attach via ScubaPro's Monorail system and are sold as separate pocket sets in Mini (up to 5 lbs per pocket) and Standard (up to 10 lbs per pocket) sizes. If the listing title includes a Monorail Weight Pocket Set, the pockets are included in that bundle at a package price.

It includes a BCD carry bag in the box (along with the Monorail weight pocket set on our bundle listings). Note it is a carry bag — not the carry-on travel backpack that shipped with the original Hydros Pro. The BCD itself is built for travel either way: the Smart-Pack design folds flat to roughly 23 x 11 x 5.5 inches, and one thing to know — the word 'backpack' in ScubaPro's product copy refers to the BCD's rigid back structure, not a luggage bag.

A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.

Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.

Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.

Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.

Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.

A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.

Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.

Monorail pockets slide onto the rails on the BCD and lock in place with one hand, with an audible click so you know they are seated, and they release with a single pull. Pockets come in two capacities — Mini holds up to 5 lbs per pocket and Standard up to 10 lbs — and are sold separately from the base BCD unless the listing title includes a Monorail Weight Pocket Set. One thing to know before you dive: ScubaPro recalled Monorail pockets sold between November 29, 2025 and February 13, 2026 over a release handle that can detach, so check our safety notice if you already own a set.

The Smart-Pack design folds the BCD flat to roughly 23 x 11 x 5.5 inches, the Ergo-Lite back plate is about 25% lighter than the previous generation, and a BCD carry bag is included in the box. BC-4-Life is ScubaPro's name for the Hydros platform's fully modular construction — the harness, bladder, back plate and accessories are separate components rather than one sewn-together assembly. In practice that means a worn or damaged part can be replaced instead of the whole BCD, and the same frame accepts ScubaPro's Hydros add-on kits. It is a big part of why the Hydros line has such a long service life.

The Hydros Pro 2 is the back-inflate model: a fabric-free molded Monprene gel harness that shapes to your body, the Monorail slide-and-lock weight system, the lighter Ergo-Lite back plate, and a carry bag in the box. The Hydros X is the front-adjustable version — injection-molded Monprene shoulders and back pad with a PU-coated 420-denier nylon jacket, classic flat-buckle quick-release weight pockets, and no bag included. Choose the Pro 2 for the modular gel harness and streamlined back inflation, the X if you prefer the familiar feel and surface stability of a front-adjustable BCD.
