Open Box Regulators — Premium Breathing Systems for Less
Regulators are where open box buying makes the most financial sense. They're among the most expensive items a diver owns, they're built to be serviced and rebuilt as a matter of routine, and a cosmetic scuff on a first stage has no bearing whatsoever on how it breathes. A regulator that came back because a diver wanted DIN instead of yoke is mechanically a new regulator — it just can't be sold as one.
This collection covers first stages, second stages, complete sets, and octopuses from Atomic Aquatics, Scubapro, Apeks, Hollis, Sherwood, Mares, Zeagle, and others. Every item is inspected and graded before listing; see Product Conditions for full grade definitions.
Service Before You Dive
This matters more here than in any other open box category. A regulator is life support equipment, and you should have any regulator you didn't buy new inspected and serviced by a qualified technician before diving it — regardless of its condition grade or apparent condition.
That isn't a warning against buying open box; it's how regulators work. They need periodic service anyway, and soft parts degrade with age whether or not the regulator has been dived. Many divers buy open box specifically because the savings comfortably exceed the cost of a full service, leaving them with a freshly serviced regulator for less than the price of a new one.
What to Check Before Ordering
- DIN or Yoke. Confirm the connection type matches your cylinders and the fills available where you dive. Adapters exist, but it's cleaner to buy the right one.
- What's included. Sets may or may not include the octopus, hoses, or bag. Check the listing and the condition note.
- Nitrox and oxygen service. If you dive enriched air or decompression gas, confirm the regulator's rating and whether it has been oxygen cleaned. Don't assume.
- Hose lengths. Particularly relevant for technical configurations, where a standard set won't route correctly for sidemount or a long-hose setup.
- Service history and parts availability. Older discontinued models can be harder to source parts for. Contact us if you're unsure whether a specific model is still serviceable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to buy a used regulator?
Yes, provided you have it professionally serviced before diving it — which is what any responsible diver does with any regulator they didn't buy new. Regulators are designed to be rebuilt. A technician replaces the soft parts, tests intermediate pressure and cracking effort, and certifies it. At that point its history is largely irrelevant.
Do open box regulators come with a warranty?
No. Open box and used products are not eligible for manufacturer warranty coverage, including regulators. Factor the cost of servicing into your decision, and buy new if warranty coverage is important to you.
How much does a regulator service cost relative to the savings?
Service costs vary by model and region, but on a premium regulator the open box discount typically exceeds the cost of a full service by a comfortable margin. Ask us about a specific item and we can help you weigh it up.
Can I convert a yoke regulator to DIN, or vice versa?
Usually yes — most manufacturers offer conversion kits, and adapters are available for occasional use. It's cheaper and simpler to buy the connection type you actually need, but conversion is a normal service-counter job if the right regulator comes up at the right price.
Will the regulator arrive in its original box?
Not necessarily. Across all condition grades, original packaging may be damaged or missing. The regulator itself is described accurately by its condition grade regardless of packaging.
