Product Information

The Garmin Descent T2 Transceiver is a tank-mounted transceiver for divers using a compatible Garmin Descent dive computer. It sends tank pressure and diver depth over Garmin's SubWave sonar network at up to 10 m (33 ft.) underwater, carries a 20 ATM water rating with a 300 bar (4351 psi) pressure rating, and runs up to 100 hr. on a single 3 V CR123A lithium battery.

Who it is for

It is for divers who want air integration on the wrist instead of a traditional gauge check, and for buddy teams and guides who want to see each other's gas and depth during the dive. Up to 8 transceivers can be paired with one dive computer, so you can monitor your own tanks plus your buddies'. Sidemount divers are supported too: the paired computer reports redundant air time remaining for the tank with the lower pressure and can prompt you to breathe from a specific tank.

Key details

  • ANT technology on the surface, SubWave sonar network underwater, 2.4 GHz @ 5.22 dBm maximum.
  • Pressure and depth data up to 10 m (33 ft.); diver messaging up to 30 m (98 ft.) with compatible devices.
  • Transmit power is adjustable from the paired computer; higher power increases range and audible noise and decreases battery life.
  • Alerts for below reserve pressure, critically low pressure, low battery, and NO COMMS after 60 seconds of lost communication.
  • Enters low power mode two minutes after returning to the surface and depressurizing the regulator.

Compatibility and sizing

The 7/16 in. (20 UNF) thread installs on a regulator first stage high-pressure output port using the pre-installed flow restrictor, or on a high pressure hose extension certified to EN 250:2014 with the included air spool. Pressure, diver depth, diver distance and public tank name are viewable on the Descent Mk2i, Mk3i and X50i; the Mk3i and X50i also send and receive messages, while the Mk2i receives them. The Descent S1 buoy and the Garmin Dive app are also supported, and the transceiver ID is printed on the housing for easy pairing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which dive computers work with the Garmin Descent T2 transceiver?

The T2 pairs with the Descent Mk2i, Descent Mk3i (43mm and 51mm), Descent X50i, and the Descent S1 diver communication buoy. It does not work with the Descent X30, Descent G2, or non-Descent Garmin watches. You mount one T2 per tank you want to monitor.

How many tanks or divers can the T2 monitor at once?

A compatible Descent computer can pair with up to 8 T2 transceivers at once — your own tanks plus your dive buddies' — showing tank pressure, depth, and distance for each diver from up to 10 meters away through Garmin's SubWave sonar network.

Can divers send messages to each other with the T2?

Yes — divers wearing Descent Mk3i or X50i computers with paired T2 transceivers can exchange preset messages (like check-air or turn-around signals) up to 30 meters apart underwater. Both divers need a T2 for messaging to work, and the messages are preformatted — it is signaling, not free-form texting.

What information does the Garmin Descent T2 show on my dive computer?

The T2 sends tank pressure, air time remaining, and gas consumption rate to your Descent computer. When you are monitoring buddies who also have T2 transceivers, you additionally see each diver's pressure, depth, and distance from you. That turns a normal SPG check into a continuous picture of the whole team's gas situation.

What is Garmin SubWave, and how far does the Descent T2 reach?

SubWave is Garmin's underwater sonar network, and it is what carries T2 data through the water instead of the radio used by conventional transmitters. Tank pressure and diver data transmit from up to 10 meters away, while preset diver-to-diver messages carry up to 30 meters. Those ranges are why buddy monitoring works in normal team spacing but is not a long-distance tool.

Can I add a Garmin Descent T2 to a dive computer I already own?

Yes. The T2 is an optional accessory, not something you have to buy up front, and it pairs with a Descent Mk2i, Mk3i in either 43mm or 51mm, Descent X50i, or the Descent S1 diver communication buoy. Buy one transceiver per tank you want to monitor and add more later if you want to keep an eye on buddies' cylinders too.

What battery does the Garmin Descent T2 use, and can I change it myself?

The Descent T2 runs on a 3 V CR123A lithium battery, pre-installed at the factory, with up to 100 hr. of battery life. You can replace it yourself by opening the cap with a coin or a flat screwdriver. The paired dive computer shows a low battery alert when fewer than 20 hours of dive time remain, and Garmin offers a replacement battery cap kit with cap, gaskets and silicone grease.

How does the Descent T2 install on my regulator?

It threads onto a 7/16 in. (20 UNF) high-pressure output port on your regulator first stage, using the flow restrictor that comes pre-installed on the transceiver. If you would rather position it away from the first stage, it can be installed on a high pressure hose extension certified to the EN 250:2014 standard using the air spool included in the box.

How deep is the Garmin Descent T2 rated?

The Descent T2 carries a 20 ATM water rating, which means it withstands pressure equivalent to a depth of 200 m, plus a 300 bar (4351 psi) pressure rating. Its underwater operating temperature range is 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F) and the general operating range is -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F). Inspect all parts before each use and replace any damaged parts.

Does the Descent T2 work for sidemount diving?

Yes. The Descent T2 supports sidemount setups, with redundant air time remaining reported for the tank that has the lower pressure, and the paired computer can prompt you to breathe from a specific tank. Transceiver alerts also cover below reserve pressure, critically low pressure, low battery, and a NO COMMS warning after 60 seconds of lost communication.

Review summary

4.8 78 ratings across the web

Reviewers agree this transmitter pairs easily with Garmin dive computers and then works without fuss, sending tank pressure straight to the watch. Several called it necessary rather than optional, since the computer can factor air levels into its calculations and you stop reaching for a dial gauge mid-dive. One diver still carries a mechanical SPG as a backup. Rated to 200 meters, it can also show tank pressure and depth for up to eight paired buddies. Good fit for divers with a compatible air-integrated Garmin Descent computer.

What reviewers like

Pairs with Garmin dive computers without trouble
Air levels feed the computer's dive calculations
No fumbling for a dial gauge underwater
Simple to install
Shows buddies' tank pressure and depth, up to 8 transceivers

This tank pressure monitoring transceiver delivers reliable performance for dive computers. Customers said it's "easy to install and pair" and "works great" with computer connectivity. It includes an air spool for transmitter hose connection. Divers praised it as essential for safe diving and accurate air level tracking, eliminating gauge fumbling.

The transmitter is an invaluable item so the you know you are levels on your diver compute. You can use a dive computer and a dial gauge and make it work. But if you want the computer to calculate in you air levels into its bottom rim calculation, the transmitter is a musty have. It also remove the fumbling around to find your dial gauge and provide you accurate info directly on your computer.
