Product Information

The Bare 7mm Velocity Ultra 2.0 Full Men's Wetsuit in black is a 7mm men's full suit for cold-water diving, built from progressive full-stretch neoprene with Ultrawarmth Omnired Infrared Technology in the torso that converts body heat into infrared energy to increase circulation and body warmth. Double-glued Secure-lock seams, a contoured Glideskin collar with a 360-degree neck seal and internal skin-in flip seals work together to keep water entry to a minimum, and the suit carries a 2-year warranty.

Who it is for

This is a suit for the diver who dives cold water in a wetsuit rather than a drysuit, and who wants core warmth without giving up range of motion. The seamless underarms mean it is comfortable worn on its own, under a BCD, or with an additional wet layer such as a vest, so it also suits divers doing long or repetitive dives who need extra torso warmth.

Key details

  • 7mm progressive full-stretch neoprene throughout, with Omnired Infrared Technology in the torso.
  • PROTEKT knee protection using a combination of woven fabrics for abrasion resistance, plus embossed back knee flex panels.
  • Extra-long heavy-duty back zipper with a skin-to-skin internal sealing flap, plus wrist and heavy-duty ankle zippers for donning and doffing.
  • Velcro collar adjustment with a booklet-style Suit Saver to stop snags.

Compatibility and sizing

Offered in black in sizes S, M, MT, ML, MLS, MLT, L, LS, LT, XL, XLS, XLT, 2XL, 2XLS and 3XL, so short and tall divers can match torso and limb length instead of settling for a regular cut. The Velocity Ultra 2.0 platform is also made in 3mm, 5mm and 8/7mm semi-dry thicknesses if you want a lighter or warmer version of the same suit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which wetsuit thickness do I need for my water temperature?

BARE's official guidance: above 75°F (24°C), a 3–5mm; from 68–75°F (20–24°C), a 5–7mm; below 68°F (20°C), a 7mm or more; and below 50°F (10°C), BARE recommends moving to a drysuit. Everyone's cold tolerance differs — if you tend to run cold or do long repetitive dives, size the thickness up a step.

What warranty do BARE wetsuits have?

BARE covers all wetsuits with a 2-year warranty on workmanship and materials for defects, with repair or replacement at BARE's option. Normal wear, misuse, and unauthorized repairs are excluded. (The longer 7-year seam coverage you may have read about applies to BARE drysuits, not wetsuits.)

How should a wetsuit fit?

A wetsuit should feel snug everywhere, with no loose pockets at the lower back, armpits, or behind the knees where water can collect and flush. It will feel tighter than normal clothing on land, which is expected, because the suit works by holding a thin layer of water that your body warms. If you cannot take a full breath or the neck chokes you it is too small, and if you can pinch loose folds of neoprene it is too big.

What do you wear under a wetsuit?

Most divers wear a swimsuit, a rash guard, or a thin dive-specific base layer under a wetsuit. A slick base layer makes a tight suit much easier to pull on and cuts down chafing at the neck, shoulders, and underarms. Avoid thick cotton clothing, which soaks up water, bunches, and makes you colder rather than warmer.

How do you put on a tight wetsuit?

Work upward in small sections, pulling a little neoprene at a time rather than yanking on one spot, and get the suit fully seated at the ankles and knees before working on the hips and shoulders. A plastic bag over each foot and hand, or wetting the suit first, helps it slide into place. Grip with flat palms rather than fingertips, since fingernails are the most common cause of torn neoprene.

Does a thicker wetsuit mean a warmer wetsuit?

As a general rule, thicker neoprene insulates more, so a higher millimeter rating is warmer in the same conditions. Warmth also depends heavily on fit, suit style, seam construction, whether you add a hood, boots, and gloves, how long the dive is, and your own cold tolerance, so two divers in identical suits can feel very differently. Use thickness as a starting point and refine it against your local conditions and personal experience.

How do I care for and store a wetsuit?

Rinse it inside and out in fresh water after every dive day, and use a wetsuit-specific wash occasionally to control odor. Dry it inside-out first and then flip it, always out of direct sunlight, because UV and heat break down neoprene faster than anything else. Store it hanging on a wide-shouldered hanger or laid flat rather than folded, so you do not set permanent creases.

How long does a wetsuit last?

Lifespan depends far more on use and care than on age, so a suit dived hard in sun and chlorine may soften within a couple of seasons while a well-rinsed occasional-use suit can last many years. Signs a suit is finished include compressed neoprene that no longer feels buoyant or warm, splitting seams, and looseness in areas that used to be snug. Repairing small cuts and seam separations early adds meaningfully to a suit's life.

What is the difference between a full suit, a shorty, and wetsuit separates?

A full suit covers arms and legs, a shorty stops at the upper arms and thighs, and separates such as tops, bottoms, and hooded vests layer to add warmth where you want it. Layering a vest or top under a full suit adds core warmth and can extend the range of a suit you already own. Choose based on how much coverage you want, both for warmth and for protection against stings and abrasion.

What does the Omnired Infrared Technology in the Velocity Ultra 2.0 actually do?

Omnired Infrared Technology in the torso converts your own body heat into infrared energy to increase circulation and body warmth. BARE calls this its Ultrawarmth construction.

Which sizes does this Bare Velocity Ultra 2.0 wetsuit come in?

This listing is offered in black in fifteen sizes: S, M, MT, ML, MLS, MLT, L, LS, LT, XL, XLS, XLT, 2XL, 2XLS and 3XL. The Short and Tall options let you match limb and torso length rather than only chest and waist, which matters on a 7mm suit because loose pockets at the lower back, armpits or knees let water flush through. Call 888-701-4017 if you are between sizes.

Is the Velocity Ultra 2.0 available in thinner or warmer versions?

Yes. BARE builds the Velocity Ultra Full 2.0 in 3mm, 5mm, 7mm and 8/7mm semi-dry thicknesses. This page is the 7mm version, which BARE designs for cold-water diving. Choose the 3mm or 5mm for warmer water, or the 8/7mm semi-dry if you want more thermal protection before stepping up to a drysuit.

What comes packaged with the wetsuit?

Each 7mm Velocity Ultra Full 2.0 ships with a reusable hanger and a PLA compostable/recyclable bag. The reusable hanger is worth keeping for storing the suit between dive trips. Hoods, boots and gloves are sold separately.
