Product Information

The SCUBAPRO Aladin H Matrix w/QR Dive Computer is a compact, fully air-integrated console computer for recreational divers, combining a metallic faceplate and segmented black and white LCD with a built-in digital compass, a 120 m depth rating and a quick-release fitting that lets you separate the computer from the HP hose for data download, travel and storage.

Who it is for

It suits the recreational air and nitrox diver who prefers reading depth, time, tank pressure and remaining bottom time from a single console instead of a wrist unit plus separate gauge. With Predictive Multi-Gas support for three gases from 21 to 100% O2, adjustable microbubble levels and PDIS, it works for divers moving from single-tank air diving into nitrox and multi-gas recreational profiles, and the Gauge mode covers dives where you want depth and time only. Travelers benefit from the quick-release fitting, since the computer head can come off the hose and go in carry-on luggage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need my own dive computer?

A dive computer tracks the actual depth and time profile you have dived and the tissue loading that follows from it, which is personal to you. A rented computer has no record of your recent diving, and swapping models each trip means relearning the display and menus when you should be focused on the dive. Owning one you know well is a genuine safety and comfort improvement.

Can two divers share one dive computer?

No. A computer only tracks the profile of the diver actually wearing it, and even buddies who stay together do not follow identical depth and time profiles. Every diver needs their own computer, and passing one between divers or between dives is unsafe.

What does conservatism mean on a dive computer?

Conservatism settings make the computer's calculations more cautious, shortening allowed bottom times and adding margin beyond the base algorithm. Divers commonly add conservatism for factors such as cold, hard work, fatigue, or repetitive multi-day diving. How and when to adjust it is covered by your training and your computer's manual, so set it before you get in the water and follow what your computer tells you during the dive.

What kind of battery does a dive computer use?

Broadly there are two types: user-replaceable batteries, often a coin cell that you or a shop swap along with resealing an o-ring, and sealed rechargeable batteries that charge from a cable or dock. Neither is universally better, as replaceable cells are convenient on remote trips while rechargeables avoid ever opening the case. Follow the manual exactly for any battery change, because an improperly seated o-ring or case is the usual cause of a flooded computer.

Do I need to do anything special for altitude diving or flying after diving?

Yes, both change the picture, and both are governed by your training agency's guidance and your computer's instructions rather than any casual rule of thumb. Many computers have an altitude setting that must be configured before diving at elevation, and most display a no-fly or surface-interval countdown after a dive. Follow your computer and your training, and ask a dive professional or a dive-medicine specialist if you are unsure.

How do I care for a dive computer?

Rinse it in fresh water after every dive day, paying attention to the buttons and around any sensor openings where salt crystals form, and let it dry fully before storing. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun and extreme heat, and avoid pressing buttons while sand is on the case. Inspect the strap or bungee often, because a failed strap loses far more computers than a failed computer does.

What is the difference between wrist, console, and air-integrated dive computers?

A wrist computer is worn like a watch and read by raising your arm, while a console computer sits at the end of a hose with your other gauges. Air integration means the computer also displays cylinder pressure, either through a hose or from a wireless transmitter on the first stage, and often estimates remaining gas time. All of them run a decompression algorithm, so the real difference is where you read the information and how much of it you get.

What does the QR (quick release) in the name do?

The quick-release fitting lets you easily separate the Aladin H Matrix computer head from its HP hose. That makes post-dive data downloading easier, since you can bring just the computer to your device, and it lets you pack the head separately for travel or lock it away for storage while the hose stays with the regulator. The package includes the quick-release fitting, a swivel connector and an 85 cm HP hose.

Which battery does the Aladin H Matrix use and can I change it myself?

It uses a single CR2450 lithium coin cell and the battery is user-replaceable. SCUBAPRO estimates roughly 2 to 3 years of service, or about 200 to 300 dives. Follow the manual's battery replacement procedure, or bring it to a dive shop if you prefer.

Does it handle nitrox and multiple gases?

Yes. The Aladin H Matrix runs the Predictive Multi-Gas ZH-L16 ADT MB algorithm and supports up to three gases with oxygen settings from 21 to 100% O2. It also offers PDIS (Profile Dependent Intermediate Stops) based on nitrogen loading and breathing, plus adjustable microbubble levels so you can match conservatism to your experience, age and fitness. A Gauge mode is available for depth and time only.

How do I download my dives from this computer?

The Aladin H Matrix stores a 50-hour logbook and offers both Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0 and USB connectivity for transferring dive data. The quick-release fitting is designed for exactly this, letting you separate the computer from the HP hose and bring it to your computer or mobile device instead of carrying the whole console and regulator.

Review summary

4.3 9 ratings across the web

Reviewers agree this computer is compact and capable, handling up to three nitrox mixes with current, configurable tissue models. Post-dive data downloading through the quick-release boot makes logging easy. Good to know: the screens take a couple of passes to learn, and reviewers ask for in-water video tutorials. One diver also found the compass awkward to use underwater. It suits divers moving up from gauges, ready to spend a few dives learning the menus.

What reviewers like

Handles up to three nitrox mixes
Compact for a full-featured console computer
Current, configurable tissue models
Quick-release boot for easy post-dive data downloading
Simple once you run through the screens twice

Good to know

Screens take a few practice runs; no in-water video tutorials yet

Good for backup

To be honest, it's not my favorite. But it's a good affordable AI computer to use as a backup.

How to use in water video would be very helpful

I bought this about 4 months ago and I love the size and 3 gas mixtures!
If you would put out an informational video on how to use in water and diving would be a huge help.
I have been diving for Avery long time and this is my first computer.
The old depth and psi gauges were so easy to understand.
More in depth use video is needed.

Great safety features, could use better UI

I bought this to replace an old Trac computer/compass combo. The tissue models are much more current and configurable, but using the compass underwater isn't so simple. It can deal with up to 3 different Nitrox mixes. I somehow managed to get it into High Altitude/Mountain configuration while at the surface immediately following a dive in the water - which probably shouldn't be possible. These are my first dives - hopefully it'll get simpler with more experience with actual under-water use. Better (heck, *any*) video tutorials which show operation in-water would be very helpful.

Love it! Awesome product.

I have been diving this computer for just over a year. It is great. I recommend it often as it reduces the need for a larger console. Once you work through the screens a couple times it is super simple to use. I use the Bluetooth feature all the time to keep up a digital log, and love having it as a part of my kit.
