Product Information

The Aqua Lung Rogue BCD in Black/Grey is a modular back-inflation buoyancy compensator built around an interchangeable harness, with 35 lb / 150 N of lift, a SureLock II single-pull weight release that carries up to 20 lb / 9 kg of ditchable lead, and an overall weight of about 5 lb / 2.2 kg. Shoulder, back, and waistband assemblies connect with ModLock connectors, so the same air cell can be resized or rebuilt around a different diver.

Who it is for

It suits single-tank recreational divers who want a horizontal trim position and a slim packing profile for travel. The low-profile air cell keeps lift behind the diver for a horizontal trim position. The swappable assemblies also help divers whose fit changes over time or who share one air cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a scuba BCD fit?

A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.

How do I rinse and care for a BCD after diving?

Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.

Should I use integrated weights or a weight belt?

Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.

How do I pack a BCD for travel?

Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.

When does a BCD need to be serviced?

Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.

What is the difference between a jacket-style and a back-inflate BCD?

A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.

Will my BCD fit any scuba tank?

Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.

What does modular mean on the Aqua Lung Rogue BCD?

It means the harness is built from separate back, shoulder, and waistband assemblies that join to the air cell with ModLock connectors. The connectors click into place and open with any small tool, so you can disconnect and reattach shoulders and waists for a personalized fit, resize one part instead of the whole BCD, or rebuild the same air cell around a different diver.

How much weight can the Rogue BCD carry?

The Rogue carries 20 lb / 9 kg of ditchable weight in all sizes through the SureLock II integrated weight pockets, which release with a single pull. You can add 3 lb / 1.5 kg of non-ditchable weight using the optional ModLock trim pockets that mount to the tank band, which helps balance the load and fine-tune horizontal trim.

How much lift does the Rogue BCD have, and how much does it weigh?

Every size of the Rogue provides 35 lb / 150 N of lift from its back-inflation air cell, and the BCD itself weighs about 5 lb / 2.2 kg. The low-profile cell and flat harness webbing keep the profile slim for packing and travel.

Which sizes and colors of the Rogue BCD are available here?

This listing covers the Black/Grey colorway in S (Small), M (Medium), and L (Large), with item numbers BC1251001, BC1251002, and BC1251003. Lift, ditchable weight, and trim capacity are the same across all three sizes, so size selection is about harness fit rather than performance. Review summary

4.0 27 ratings across the web

Most reviewers describe the Rogue as light, compact, and quick to take apart, with several reporting 150 to 200 dives without a failure. Divers like the firm integrated weight pockets, the back inflate fit with a pinch clip instead of a cummerbund, and the easy freedom of movement. Good to know: a few reviewers had the waist assembly separate from the harness, and one found the medium waistband tighter than the size chart suggests. It suits traveling divers who want a modular back inflate BCD.

What reviewers like

Breaks down and reassembles fast for travel packing
Still going strong past 150 to 200 dives
Light to carry but still full featured
Integrated weight pockets lock in firmly, no wear
Back inflate with pinch clip, no cummerbund
Shoulder straps release with a press and click

Good to know

Check the waist-to-harness connection; some owners reported it detaching.
Waistband can measure smaller than the size chart suggests, so try the size on or plan to size up before committing.
