Product Information

The Scubapro GO Sport Gorilla Diving Fin is a blade-style, open-heel dive fin built from a higher-grade Monprene compound for a stiffer blade, fitted with a heavy-duty marine-grade bungee heel strap and a 25° pre-angled blade with a Central Power Panel. It shares the GO Sport design but uses a higher-grade Monprene compound for a stiffer blade and a heavy-duty marine-grade bungee strap, and it is IATA carry-on compliant.

Who it is for

Scubapro markets the GO Sport Gorilla for professional services, recreational and technical diving, so it suits experienced divers in demanding conditions. The open-heel Boot-Fit pocket and micro-adjustable heavy-duty bungee strap let the fin be worn over dive boots. Because it meets IATA carry-on rules, it also travels well for divers who prefer to keep fins out of checked baggage.

Key details

  • Monprene construction, positive buoyancy
  • 25° pre-angled blade with Central Power Panel for longitudinal rigidity and a water-channeling effect
  • Power Bars on the blade undersides prevent overflex and hold the optimal angle of attack
  • Black heel grips and black skegs
  • Marine-grade bungee heel strap, micro-adjustable

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between open-heel and full-foot fins?

Open-heel fins have an adjustable heel strap and are worn with dive boots, which protect your feet on shore entries and add warmth. Full-foot fins slip on like a shoe against bare skin or a thin sock, and are typically lighter and easier to pack. Most scuba divers choose open-heel fins with boots, while full-foot fins suit warm water, snorkeling, and pool use.

How should scuba fins fit?

Open-heel fins should be sized around the boots you will actually wear, snug with the strap set so your heel stays seated and your foot does not slide forward in the pocket. Full-foot fins should fit like a firm shoe, with no heel lift, no pinched toes, and no gap that lets water pump in and out. Too loose causes heel blisters and lost fins in current, and too tight causes foot cramps.

Should I buy dive boots before fins?

Choose your boots first and size open-heel fins around them, because sole thickness changes the foot-pocket size you need. A thin warm-water boot and a thick cold-water boot with a rugged sole can easily be a fin size apart. If you already own fins, bring them along when you buy boots so you can check the combination.

Are spring straps worth it?

Spring straps replace the adjustable rubber strap with a stainless spring that stretches on and off, so there is nothing to buckle with cold or gloved hands and no rubber strap to perish and snap mid-dive. They hold constant tension, which many divers find more comfortable and consistent. They are sized rather than adjustable, so match the length to your foot pocket and the boots you dive.

What are the best fins for travel?

For travel, length and weight matter most, so shorter blades and travel-specific open-heel or full-foot models pack more easily and save baggage allowance. Some fins have removable blades or compact foot pockets designed for luggage. Pack fins along the outside walls of your bag, where they also act as protection for softer gear.

What is the difference between paddle and split fins?

Paddle fins use a solid blade that transfers power directly, which many divers prefer for precision, control in current, and non-flutter kicks such as the frog kick. Split fins have a slit down the blade that lets water pass through, which generally makes flutter kicking easier on the legs but gives up some control and works less well with other kick styles. Neither is inherently better, so let your kick style, leg strength, and conditions decide, and try both if you get the chance.

How do I care for dive fins?

Rinse them in fresh water after each dive day, paying attention to buckles, springs, and strap channels where salt collects, and dry them out of direct sunlight. Store them flat or hanging from the foot pocket rather than standing on the blade tips, which can take a permanent bend. Check straps, buckles, and any screws before every trip, since a failed buckle is the most common fin problem.

What is the difference between the GO Sport Gorilla and the standard GO Sport fin?

The GO Sport Gorilla is identical in design to the GO Sport fin but is molded from a higher-grade Monprene compound, which makes the blade stiffer, and it comes with a heavy-duty marine-grade bungee heel strap. Both share the 25 degree pre-angled blade, Central Power Panel and Power Bars. Scubapro positions the Gorilla for experienced professional services, recreational and technical divers in demanding conditions.

Can I take the GO Sport Gorilla fins as carry-on luggage?

Yes. Scubapro lists the GO Sport Gorilla as IATA carry-on compliant, so its dimensions are intended to fit cabin baggage rules. Size XS measures 18.31 in long by 7.87 in wide and size XL measures 21.85 in long by 9.17 in wide, so confirm your specific airline's carry-on allowance before you fly, since limits vary by carrier and aircraft.

Do the Gorilla fins come with heel grips and skegs?

Yes. Black heel grips and black skegs are included with the fin, along with the micro-adjustable marine-grade bungee heel strap. Black heel grips and black skegs are included, along with the micro-adjustable marine-grade bungee heel strap. Scubapro lists the item as fins only beyond those components, so any additional accessories are sold separately.

How much do the GO Sport Gorilla fins weigh?

Weight varies by size because the foot pocket and blade scale up. Scubapro publishes 2.54 lbs for size XS, item 25.768.100, and 3.97 lb for size XL, item 25.767.500. The blade is positively buoyant in water, so the fins will float rather than sink if they come off underwater.

Review summary

4.7 28 ratings across the web

Reviewers consistently describe these as short, light fins that still deliver real propulsion, with several noting they push well even in current. People who also own the standard Go Sport say this version flexes noticeably stiffer, which they prefer for frog kicking. Divers coming from longer blades like Seawing Nova, RK3 and Avanti Quattro+ found the power held up while the packed size dropped. Comfort of the foot pocket and strap came up positively, as did the color. A good pick for traveling divers who want a packable fin without giving up stiffness.

What reviewers like

Light and short enough to pack for travel
Stiff blade gives strong propulsion, holds up in current
Stiffer than standard Go Sport, better for frog kicks
Lighter than RK3 and Avanti Quattro+ blades
Comfortable foot pocket and strap
Foot pocket designed for dive boots

Good to know

Less blade length and power than a full-size fin like the Supernova

Excellent for big feet and big guys

I had the Go before these and the foot pocket was just a bit too small for my foot. With these I can comfortably fit a 3mm sock and it's a perfect fit. The extra rigidness is nice for big divers.

Good travel size

Great fin, its a step down from the supernova but much more packable.

Best fins I’ve used (light, excellent in current, buoyancy characteristic, foot pocket and strap comfort) and love the color. Replacing my Mares Avanti Quattro+ and RK3 fins
