Product Information

The Waterproof W8 Fullsuit Front Zip 7mm Diving Wetsuit for men is a Swedish-designed, front-entry scuba wetsuit built from Neoflex super-stretch, 100% microcell limestone CR neoprene, with 7mm insulation for cool and cold water diving. It uses a YKK #10 Vislon front zipper with a corrosion-free slider, a Double Zipper Seal system and WaterDam sealing at the neck and spine to keep flushing to a minimum.

Who it is for

This suit is for the male diver who dives temperate to cold water and wants the warmth of 7mm neoprene without giving up mobility or an easy solo entry. It is the same design and fit as the back-zip Waterproof W7, just with a front-zip closure, and it suits long shore dives, boat dives and repetitive diving where staying warm between dives matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Waterproof W8 a premium wetsuit?

The Swedish-built W8 is loaded with sealing tech most suits skip: a front YKK #10 Vislon zipper with corrosion-free slider, Waterproof's WaterDam neck design that blocks water from streaming down your spine when you turn your head, a double zipper-seal system, and double glide-skin seals with zippers at wrists and ankles. The neoprene is 100% microcell limestone CR super-stretch with a thermal Extend lining, plus a 10–12mm spine pad, Kevlar-reinforced knees, and dual draining hip pockets.

What sizes does the Waterproof W8 come in?

Men's sizes run XS through 3XL including Tall and Plus variants, and the women's version runs XS through 2XL with extended sizes — Waterproof publishes detailed measurement guidance, and fit matters more than anything else for warmth. It comes in 5mm and 7mm versions for both men and women. If you are between sizes, send us your height, weight, and chest measurement and we will size you.

How should a wetsuit fit?

A wetsuit should feel snug everywhere, with no loose pockets at the lower back, armpits, or behind the knees where water can collect and flush. It will feel tighter than normal clothing on land, which is expected, because the suit works by holding a thin layer of water that your body warms. If you cannot take a full breath or the neck chokes you it is too small, and if you can pinch loose folds of neoprene it is too big.

What do you wear under a wetsuit?

Most divers wear a swimsuit, a rash guard, or a thin dive-specific base layer under a wetsuit. A slick base layer makes a tight suit much easier to pull on and cuts down chafing at the neck, shoulders, and underarms. Avoid thick cotton clothing, which soaks up water, bunches, and makes you colder rather than warmer.

How do you put on a tight wetsuit?

Work upward in small sections, pulling a little neoprene at a time rather than yanking on one spot, and get the suit fully seated at the ankles and knees before working on the hips and shoulders. A plastic bag over each foot and hand, or wetting the suit first, helps it slide into place. Grip with flat palms rather than fingertips, since fingernails are the most common cause of torn neoprene.

Does a thicker wetsuit mean a warmer wetsuit?

As a general rule, thicker neoprene insulates more, so a higher millimeter rating is warmer in the same conditions. Warmth also depends heavily on fit, suit style, seam construction, whether you add a hood, boots, and gloves, how long the dive is, and your own cold tolerance, so two divers in identical suits can feel very differently. Use thickness as a starting point and refine it against your local conditions and personal experience.

How do I care for and store a wetsuit?

Rinse it inside and out in fresh water after every dive day, and use a wetsuit-specific wash occasionally to control odor. Dry it inside-out first and then flip it, always out of direct sunlight, because UV and heat break down neoprene faster than anything else. Store it hanging on a wide-shouldered hanger or laid flat rather than folded, so you do not set permanent creases.

How long does a wetsuit last?

Lifespan depends far more on use and care than on age, so a suit dived hard in sun and chlorine may soften within a couple of seasons while a well-rinsed occasional-use suit can last many years. Signs a suit is finished include compressed neoprene that no longer feels buoyant or warm, splitting seams, and looseness in areas that used to be snug. Repairing small cuts and seam separations early adds meaningfully to a suit's life.

What is the difference between a full suit, a shorty, and wetsuit separates?

A full suit covers arms and legs, a shorty stops at the upper arms and thighs, and separates such as tops, bottoms, and hooded vests layer to add warmth where you want it. Layering a vest or top under a full suit adds core warmth and can extend the range of a suit you already own. Choose based on how much coverage you want, both for warmth and for protection against stings and abrasion.

What is the difference between the Waterproof W8 and the W7?

The W8 and W7 share the same design and fit, and the difference is the closure. The W8 uses a front-zip entry with a YKK #10 Vislon zipper and a corrosion-free slider, while the W7 is the back-zip version. A front zip is generally easier to manage on your own, so choose the W8 if you often gear up without help.

Should I choose the 5mm or the 7mm Waterproof W8?

Both thicknesses use the same Neoflex super-stretch limestone neoprene, WaterDam sealing and front-zip construction, so the choice comes down to water temperature and your own cold tolerance. The 7mm gives more insulation for cooler water, while the 5mm suits warmer conditions. Call 888-701-4017 if you want help deciding.

Does the W8 7mm wetsuit have pockets?

Yes. The W8 has dual super-stretch integrated hip pockets with drain valves, so stored items shed water instead of holding it. The dual super-stretch integrated hip pockets hold spare gear such as a mask or an SMB. Duratex panels and Kevlar reinforced knee pads protect the suit's high-wear areas.

Does the Waterproof W8 come in tall and plus sizes for men?

Yes. This men's 7mm W8 is offered in XS, S, M, ML and L through 2XL, plus tall cuts in MT, MLT, LT, XLT and 2XLT, plus sizes M+ and L+, and a 3XLT+ for taller and larger builds. Contact us if you are between sizes and want help choosing a standard, tall or plus cut.

Review summary

4.9 73 ratings across the web

Written reviews for this suit are still few. The Waterproof W8 is a men's 7mm full wetsuit with a front-zip entry, built from ultra-soft four-way stretch neoprene for mobility. It has WaterDam technology and a Double Zipper Seal System to limit water flow, Duratex panels at high-wear areas, Aramid (Kevlar) kneepads, anti-slip shoulder and waist surfaces, streamlined pockets, and EasyGrip zippers. Early reviewers mention strong warmth, comfort, and easy entry. It suits divers doing long sessions in cooler water.

The Warmest Wetsuit I've Ever Worn

The Waterproof W8 7mm Front Zip is easily one of the most comfortable and well-built wetsuits I've ever worn. The premium materials, flexible neoprene, and front-zip design make getting in and out of it surprisingly easy—well, as easy as squeezing into a 7mm wetsuit can be.

Once you're in the water, the W8 really shines. It keeps you incredibly warm without feeling stiff, and the flexible construction gives you an impressive range of motion whether you're swimming, climbing back onto the boat, or wrestling with your dive buddy over who gets the best lobster spot.

The fit and finish are outstanding, with reinforced knees, quality seals, and thoughtful details that make it feel like a true premium wetsuit. It's built for divers who spend long days in colder water and want comfort that lasts from the first dive to the last.

It's definitely an investment, but if staying warm means longer, more enjoyable dives, the Waterproof W8 is worth every penny. Just don't be surprised if your dive buddies start asking why you still look comfortable during the safety stop.
