Product Information

The Waterproof W7 5mm Fullsuit with Back Zip is a men's 5 mm scuba wetsuit built from Neoflex super-stretch, 100% microcell limestone CR neoprene, closed by a YKK #10 Vislon back zip with a stainless steel, corrosion-free slider and backed by a Double Zipper Seal system that minimizes water flow behind the zipper. It is a Swedish-designed suit for divers who want high stretch, an EXTEND thermal lining and a 3D anatomical cut in a black and grey dull Lycra finish.

Who it is for

This is the suit for the demanding diver who dives often and wants warmth without giving up mobility: the 5 mm thickness supports comfortable wear across a range of water conditions, and the pre-bent arms and legs plus Wave Flex Panels in the hollow of the arms and legs keep finning and reaching for valves and gauges easy. Kevlar (Aramid) and Duratex reinforced knees, a Duratex reinforced seat and elbows, and polyurethane print at the shoulders and waist make it practical for boat dives, kneeling on hard bottoms and wearing a weight belt. Two integrated hip pockets with drain valves hold small accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a wetsuit fit?

A wetsuit should feel snug everywhere, with no loose pockets at the lower back, armpits, or behind the knees where water can collect and flush. It will feel tighter than normal clothing on land, which is expected, because the suit works by holding a thin layer of water that your body warms. If you cannot take a full breath or the neck chokes you it is too small, and if you can pinch loose folds of neoprene it is too big.

What do you wear under a wetsuit?

Most divers wear a swimsuit, a rash guard, or a thin dive-specific base layer under a wetsuit. A slick base layer makes a tight suit much easier to pull on and cuts down chafing at the neck, shoulders, and underarms. Avoid thick cotton clothing, which soaks up water, bunches, and makes you colder rather than warmer.

How do you put on a tight wetsuit?

Work upward in small sections, pulling a little neoprene at a time rather than yanking on one spot, and get the suit fully seated at the ankles and knees before working on the hips and shoulders. A plastic bag over each foot and hand, or wetting the suit first, helps it slide into place. Grip with flat palms rather than fingertips, since fingernails are the most common cause of torn neoprene.

Does a thicker wetsuit mean a warmer wetsuit?

As a general rule, thicker neoprene insulates more, so a higher millimeter rating is warmer in the same conditions. Warmth also depends heavily on fit, suit style, seam construction, whether you add a hood, boots, and gloves, how long the dive is, and your own cold tolerance, so two divers in identical suits can feel very differently. Use thickness as a starting point and refine it against your local conditions and personal experience.

How do I care for and store a wetsuit?

Rinse it inside and out in fresh water after every dive day, and use a wetsuit-specific wash occasionally to control odor. Dry it inside-out first and then flip it, always out of direct sunlight, because UV and heat break down neoprene faster than anything else. Store it hanging on a wide-shouldered hanger or laid flat rather than folded, so you do not set permanent creases.

How long does a wetsuit last?

Lifespan depends far more on use and care than on age, so a suit dived hard in sun and chlorine may soften within a couple of seasons while a well-rinsed occasional-use suit can last many years. Signs a suit is finished include compressed neoprene that no longer feels buoyant or warm, splitting seams, and looseness in areas that used to be snug. Repairing small cuts and seam separations early adds meaningfully to a suit's life.

What is the difference between a full suit, a shorty, and wetsuit separates?

A full suit covers arms and legs, a shorty stops at the upper arms and thighs, and separates such as tops, bottoms, and hooded vests layer to add warmth where you want it. Layering a vest or top under a full suit adds core warmth and can extend the range of a suit you already own. Choose based on how much coverage you want, both for warmth and for protection against stings and abrasion.

What sizes does the Waterproof W7 5mm men's fullsuit come in?

The W7 5 mm men's back zip fullsuit is offered in 17 sizes: XS, S, ST, M, M+, ML, MT, MLT, L, L+, LT, XL, XL+, XLT, 2XL, 2XLT and 3XLT+. The T sizes are tall variants and the + sizes are plus variants; call us for size-chart help. If you are between sizes or unsure which cut fits your build, call us at 888-701-4017.

Does the W7 come with a neck seal?

No. The W7 neoprene detachable neck seal is an optional Waterproof accessory sold separately. It is designed to reduce water flow at the neck when you dive without a hood. The suit itself uses a TPE collar with molded Velcro hooks for adjustment, plus double glide skin seals at the wrists and ankles and the Double Zipper Seal panels behind the back zip.

How does the back zip stay sealed on the W7?

The W7 uses a YKK #10 Vislon back zipper with a stainless steel, corrosion-free slider, and Waterproof backs it with a Double Zipper Seal system: wide double seal panels behind the zipper that minimize water flow through the suit. Combined with the double glide skin neoprene seals at the wrists and ankles, this limits flushing and helps the suit hold warmth.

Can I carry accessories in the W7 wetsuit?

Yes. The W7 has two integrated super-stretch hip pockets with drain valves, so water does not stay trapped after a dive. The sleeves also have anti-slip computer strap anchors on both arms to keep a dive computer from sliding off when gloves come off or the neoprene compresses at depth.

Review summary

5.0 166 ratings across the web

Written reviews for this one are still few. It is a men's 5mm full wetsuit with a back zip, made from Neoflex 100% CR neoprene for 4-way stretch and freedom of movement, with warmth for diving across a range of water conditions. The outer finish is a dull Lycra in grey and black, giving it a durable, low-profile look. An early reviewer mentions good looks and a good fit. Based on the product data, it suits male divers wanting a mid-thickness full suit for general scuba use.
