The Apeks XTX40 Dive Regulator anchors this package with the DS4 first stage, an over-balanced diaphragm design that lets medium-pressure gas build faster than ambient pressure as you descend, so performance holds up at depth. The first stage carries four medium-pressure ports and one high-pressure port angled for clean hose routing, with DIN and Yoke connections and an environmental dry system that keeps water, silt and contamination out of the spring chamber. Its second stage is pneumatically balanced for smooth, easy breathing, with a 2-stage progressive purge button, a soft-touch venturi lever, a Comfo-bite mouthpiece, and a Diver Changeable Exhaust system that comes with one exhaust tee.
Backing it up is the Apeks XTX50 Octopus, built around the same pneumatically-balanced second stage approach, with its own 2-stage progressive purge button and Comfo-bite mouthpiece. It adds a breathing effort control knob so you can desensitize it when it's not in use, a silicone exhaust valve, and braided flexi-hoses rated for coldwater use. It's compatible with EAN40 out of the box, and its molded parts are treated with an additive aimed at MRSA, E-Coli, bacteria, fungi, viruses, mold, yeast and algae. Like the XTX40, it can be converted from right-handed to left-handed hose routing by an Apeks Authorized Service Technician.
Rounding out the package is an Apeks Regulator Bag to keep the primary and octopus together and organized between dives. Pairing the XTX40 w/ DS4 with the matching XTX50 Octopus means your primary and backup share the same hose type, mouthpiece style, and coldwater-rated construction, so there's nothing unfamiliar to adjust to if you ever need to switch to your backup underwater.
