Product Information

The Aqua Lung Pro HD Women's Dive BCD is a jacket-style buoyancy compensator built on a female-specific pattern, with a wrap-around air cell, SureLock II mechanical integrated weight release and a fade- and abrasion-resistant ResisteK shell. It is offered in XS, S, M and ML in Black/Pink or Black/Coral.

Who it is for

This BCD suits women divers who want a stable, upright feel at the surface and a harness cut to the female torso. Shaped shoulder straps and a contoured waistband follow the body rather than compress it. Its women's-specific jacket cut and wrap-around bladder suit divers who want a stable, upright position at the surface. Divers who prefer carrying lead in the BCD rather than on a belt will get the most from the integrated weight system and the fixed tank band trim pockets.

Key details

  • Jacket style with a wrap-around bladder that distributes lift evenly around the diver for an upright surface position.
  • ResisteK shell material that resists fading and abrasion in salt water and chlorine.
  • SureLock II mechanical weight release with single-pull operation and large pull bobs that are easy to grip in thick gloves.
  • Fixed tank band trim pockets to add weight capacity and balance trim in the water.
  • Two-way zippered utility pockets plus a scooped octo pocket, D-rings and knife attachment points.
  • Proprietary backpack with a built-in carry handle and a positioning strap to set your preferred height.
  • Proprietary smooth, flat valves that further reduce drag.

Compatibility and sizing

Sizes run XS (X-Small), S (Small), M (Medium) and ML (Medium Large), each available in Black/Pink or Black/Coral. The adjustable waistband accommodates a wide range of sizes, and the chest strap keeps the shoulder straps from sliding. Some divers route instruments behind the left pocket and out the scooped opening on top, in front of the lobe.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a scuba BCD fit?

A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.

How do I rinse and care for a BCD after diving?

Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.

Should I use integrated weights or a weight belt?

Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.

How do I pack a BCD for travel?

Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.

When does a BCD need to be serviced?

Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.

What is the difference between a jacket-style and a back-inflate BCD?

A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.

Will my BCD fit any scuba tank?

Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.

What sizes and colors does the Pro HD Women's BCD come in?

The Pro HD Women's Dive BCD is offered in four sizes, XS (X-Small), S (Small), M (Medium) and ML (Medium Large), and in two color schemes, Black/Pink and Black/Coral. Each size also has an adjustable waistband and chest strap, so there is some range within a given size. If you are between sizes, call 888-701-4017 and we can talk through your torso measurement.

How does the SureLock II weight system work?

SureLock II is Aqua Lung's patented mechanical weight release. The integrated weight pockets lock into the BCD and release with a single pull on a large pull bob, which is sized to be found and gripped while wearing thick gloves. Fixed pockets on the tank band increase weight capacity and help provide proper trim in the water.

What is ResisteK material?

ResisteK is the shell fabric Aqua Lung uses on the Pro HD. ResisteK is described as a technologically advanced material that resists fading and abrasion in salt water and chlorine. In practice that means it holds its color and surface finish through repeated exposure to sun, salt and boat decks.

Is the Pro HD Women's a good choice if I want to stay upright at the surface?

Yes. It is a jacket-style BCD with a wrap-around bladder that distributes lift evenly for a stable, upright surface position. Proprietary flat valves keep the profile smooth to reduce drag underwater.

Review summary

4.9 107 ratings across the web

Reviewers rate this BCD highly and agree it fits well and adjusts easily, and one highlights the integrated weight and trim pockets. One diver who first met it as rental gear called it the best rental they had used, then bought it. Another wears it over a drysuit with room to spare, and the color and details matched the description. Good to know: the pockets are flat, so slates fit but a bulky SMB may not. It suits women divers who want adjustable fit and integrated weights in warm or cold water.
