Product Information

The Aqua Lung Lotus Women's Dive BCD is a women's back-inflation, weight-integrated buoyancy compensator built around the Wrapture harness system, with curved shoulder straps and side lobes shaped for the female body and the SureLock II mechanical weight release. It is offered in Black/Charcoal in sizes XS/S, M and ML, and every size carries up to 30 lb / 13.5 kg of lead.

Who it is for

Lotus suits female divers who want a back-inflate BCD that keeps the chest clear and the air cell behind them, from warm-water travel diving to local recreational diving. Because the Wrapture harness keeps the cylinder close to your center of gravity and transfers load to the hips, it also appeals to divers who struggle with a jacket BCD riding up on the surface or pulling backward on deck. The weight-integrated design means you can leave the weight belt behind and still keep 20 lb / 9 kg ditchable with one pull.

Key details

  • Back inflation, weight integrated, with a Powerline inflator.
  • Wrapture harness system: patented swivel shoulder buckles and an ultra-thin back plate.
  • SureLock II mechanical weight release: single-pull, 20 lb / 9 kg ditchable across all sizes.
  • Non-ditchable rear trim pockets hold 10 lb / 4.5 kg.
  • Lift volume by size: XS/S 29 lb / 120 N, M 33 lb / 140 N, ML 33 lb / 180 N.
  • Bladder retraction system, flat proprietary valves and HP hose routings through the back to cut drag.
  • Chest strap slides on a rail so it can be raised or lowered to clear drysuit valves.
  • Right lobe octo pocket, right shoulder pull dump, rolled neck collar, multiple pockets, D-rings and knife attachment points.

Compatibility and sizing

Three sizes cover XS/S, M and ML. Lift volume varies by size: XS/S 29 lb / 120 N, M 33 lb / 140 N, ML 33 lb / 180 N. Size for your torso and your weighting rather than for lift alone. The ditchable and non-ditchable weight capacities are the same in every size.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a scuba BCD fit?

A BCD should fit snugly enough that it does not ride up toward your ears when inflated, while still letting you breathe fully. Fasten the waist and cummerbund first, then adjust the shoulder straps so the tank sits close to your back and the shoulders cannot slide off. With the BCD fully inflated at the surface you should still be able to take a deep, comfortable breath; if it squeezes your chest, loosen it or move up a size.

How do I rinse and care for a BCD after diving?

Rinse the outside in fresh water and also flush the inside of the bladder, because salt water gets in through the inflator and dump valves. Fill the bladder roughly a third full of fresh water through the oral inflator, slosh it around, then drain it out through the inflator and each dump valve. Hang it to dry out of direct sunlight and store it partially inflated so the bladder walls do not stick together.

Should I use integrated weights or a weight belt?

Integrated weight pockets carry the lead in the BCD itself, which many divers find more comfortable and easier on the hips, while a weight belt keeps the weight independent of your BCD. Either way, you must be able to release your ditchable weight quickly with one hand, and your buddy should know how your system releases. Non-ditchable trim pockets are useful for balance but should never hold weight you might need to drop.

How do I pack a BCD for travel?

Make sure the BCD is completely dry inside and out before packing so it does not mildew in transit. Remove all weights, deflate it fully, and fold or roll it around softer items such as a wetsuit to cushion the inflator and valves. Avoid hard creases in the air cell, and unpack and air it out as soon as you arrive.

When does a BCD need to be serviced?

Follow the service interval in the manufacturer's manual, which is commonly an annual inspection alongside the rest of your life-support gear. Have the inflator, dump valves, and bladder checked any time the inflator sticks, free-flows, feels rough, or the BCD holds air poorly. Between services, confirm that it inflates and deflates properly as part of every pre-dive check.

What is the difference between a jacket-style and a back-inflate BCD?

A jacket-style BCD holds air in panels that wrap around your sides as well as your back, while a back-inflate BCD keeps the entire air cell behind you. Jacket styles tend to feel very stable and upright at the surface, and back-inflate styles keep the chest clear and are often preferred for horizontal trim underwater. Neither is objectively better, so treat it as a fit and preference decision and try both if you can.

Will my BCD fit any scuba tank?

Most recreational BCDs use an adjustable cam band sized for common single-cylinder diameters, so standard aluminum and steel tanks generally work. Re-check the band tension after the first wetting, because webbing can relax slightly and let the tank shift. If you dive doubles or unusual cylinder diameters, confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before assuming it will hold.

How much weight can the Aqua Lung Lotus BCD carry?

Every size of the Lotus holds up to 30 lb / 13.5 kg of lead in total. Of that, 20 lb / 9 kg goes in the SureLock II ditchable weight pockets, which release with a single pull, and 10 lb / 4.5 kg goes in the non-ditchable pockets on the back of the BCD. Those rear pockets are there for trim, helping you achieve proper positioning in the water.

What sizes does the Lotus women's BCD come in?

The Lotus is offered in three women's sizes: XS/S, M and ML. Lift volume changes with size, listed as 29 lb / 120 N for XS/S, 33 lb / 140 N for M and 33 lb / 180 N for ML, while the ditchable and non-ditchable weight capacities stay the same across all sizes. If you are between sizes, call 888-701-4017 and we can talk through torso length and your exposure suit.

What makes the Lotus a women's specific BCD?

The Lotus is shaped to conform to the female body with specially curved shoulder straps and side lobes. It also uses the Wrapture harness system, with patented swivel shoulder buckles and an ultra-thin back plate, so the BCD does not ride up on the surface and the cylinder stays close to your center of gravity with the load carried on your hips.

Can I use the Lotus BCD with a drysuit?

The chest strap slides on a rail system so it can be raised or lowered, which the design specifically calls out as a way to avoid drysuit valves. The right shoulder pull dump gives you an additional dump option, and the HP hose routings through the back keep the kit low profile. Remember that a drysuit changes your weighting, so recheck your lead against the 30 lb / 13.5 kg capacity.
